Infinix is shaking things up in its Note lineup by bringing even more to its headlining Pro+ model. Cameras, battery, performance – some more popular midrangers should at least feel uneasy at the sight of the Note 50 Pro+, possibly even threat. The new handset comes with a proper triple camera that now includes a 3x telephoto with close focusing capabilities – there are ‘flagships’ that can’t match that. Another new addition is the ultrawide – with autofocus too, also not guaranteed in many market segments. The main camera, meanwhile, is no longer 108MP, but the new 50MP sensor here is a tiny bit larger and, we suspect, generally better. So from a single real camera (and two pretend cameras) on the Note 40 Pro+ to three real cameras on the Note 50 Pro+ – quite the improvement.
Another significant development is the relatively major battery capacity increase (from 4,600mAh to 5,200mAh), enabled by a switch to a silicon carbon cell for improved density. Also noteworthy is the new chipset – the Dimensity 8350 may not be a powerhouse, but it’s up to three times more potent thanThe Note 40 Pro+ already featured a slew of small niceties and so does the new model. There’s an underdisplay fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers (a JBL collaboration), even an FM radio. The fairly rare for the class wireless charging is not merely present, but good for up to 50W input (if you can find a compatible pad). Oh and the 100W wired charging is pretty great too.
The build has gotten more premium too, with plastic now essentially gone from the outside – the frame is aluminum, the back is glass. The dust and water protection has been upgraded too, now up to an IP64 rating (better than the IP53 of the old model, but still not doesn’t cover submersion).
